Who are we?
We are the Stuyvesant Penguins, Stuyvesant's Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving Team. We have been the PSAL city champions for SEVEN consecutive years and PSAL A Championship Champs for EIGHT consecutive years after our 2015-2016 season!
Our season takes place in the fall. It can start as early as the end of August, and can end as late as the end of November. We are around each other almost every day during the season, so we become super close after cheering for each other at swim meets, swimming in the pool, chatting in the locker rooms, and travelling together!
Being a member of the team on top of being a Stuyvesant student is demanding, and it can be difficult to balance your schoolwork with swim practice and other extracurricular activities. However, it is definitely manageable, and your team mates, captains, and coach will be there to help you as much as possible. We have a lot of fun and learn a lot together, and being part of the team is so, so, so worth it!

3.) When and where do you practice?
Practice takes place at the Stuyvesant pool. You are expected to be at practice at least 3-4 times a week, and practices take place immediately after school ends. They usually last about 2 hours and end around 6:15-6:30.
4.) What about swim meets?
During the regular PSAL season, the swim meets in our division take place in Manhattan and the Bronx, usually immediately after school ends. In the past, we have swum in pools such as the Dewitt Clinton Pool, CCNY Pool, Hunter College Pool. There are about 10 meets during the regular season, and you are expected to make all of them. Don't worry though-- the meets don't usually take longer than a regular day of practice!

There are SO many reasons you should join this team! Here are a few quick reasons:
- Swimming is so much fun! If you don't already love it, being on the team is guaranteed to make you love it!
- Start or maintain a healthy, active lifestyle! Swimming is one of the greatest things you can do to stay in shape. Additionally, we'll teach and encourage you to do stuff such as eat healthy and balanced meals, and get enough sleep.
- Meet and get to know new people! We know freshman year can be very intimidating, but we have an amazing group of girls on the team. We look forward to getting to know you, answering your questions and showing you the ropes! We each have a variety of different interests that we love talking about-- from Glee to cake to musical theatre, One Direction, The Big Bang Theory, feminism, K-pop, Darren Criss, Mozart, Criminal Minds, foreign policy, Sherlock, Taylor Swift, basketball, Doctor Who, Microbe Hunters, Harry Potter, AP Calc BC, Michael Phelps, life...I'll try to stop there! - Compete! We race against each other, other schools, and the Stuy boys' team (who definitely are not as cool as us). We also cheer our lungs and voices out. And celebrate.
- We do more than swim! In addition to practicing, we compete, hold team picnics, sleepovers, and dinners. We also have a whole bunch of cool traditions, cheers, more crazy-fun stuff, and perhaps some new surprises up our sleeves!
